Evaluation.
If my partner and I were to do this again, we would ensure that we created more time for ourselves to film and edit our final piece to make sure that it was to the highest standard possible. Also, we probably would have created a more interesting and different type of story line and create one that was more out of the ordinary, so it is not like the majority of all other horror films and it would be more interesting to create and also watch. We would also include a more wide variety of shot types as our film opening included a small variety and if we would have included more, this could have possibly improved our mark and made our film look much more of a higher standard.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Gender.
Characters:
- Victim - Lucy Welling.
- Killer- Natalie Earle (Me)
My character challenges the traditional representation of the male characters being the antagonist. Females are usually represented in a very negative way in horror films - unintelligent, never survive. We decided to challenge this traditional representation and have a female murderer
Lucy's character portrays young teenage girls as being a victim and helpless in saving themselves and also that they are easy to take advantage of as during the film opening we learn that she is being followed and eventually will get murdered during the film. This goes along with the traditional representation of young girls in horror films being the victim and also one of the first of or the only ones to not survive.

Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract/address your audience?
The most likely audience for our film would be any gender aged 15 and above. This is because of the hints of violence in the opening of our film and the images of the body murdered on the floor.
'At ’15’ there can be strong threat and menace (as long as it is not sadistic or sexualised), although the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.'
I believe that this corresponds to our film as we have included the idea of threat and menace through the shots of the murderer following the victim and planning to kill her. Our images are not too gory at all and only lightly hint at the idea of very strong violence. Also, from our questionnaire results, we found that the majority of people ages 15 and above enjoyed horror/drama/thriller genre of films.
As we are a group of two female over the age of 15 that both enjoy watching horror/drama films, we were able to attract our audience the way that we would be attracted by a film opening, such as putting in ideas that we both find interesting. We also used a questionnaire and took things from our results to use in our film opening ideas.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our chosen genre was a horror/drama, we researched the generic conventions of a horror/drama. Our setting is at a horse stable which is small, isolated, near the countryside and is surrounded by narrow alleyways which is the perfect setting to use a generic convention of a horror setting. For the colours, we used dark backgrounds on our titles and credits and used our shots of the victim dead on the floor to correspond with the use of the red for blood and death. Our narrative structure involves death and a damsel in distress which uses the generic conventions. We chose not to use any weapons in out opening to keep the audience in suspense as to how the killer is murdering their victims. We used a young girl as the victim in our film as this is also the generic convention of a horror/drama as female are usually portrayed as being helpless and an easy target. The way in which we challenged the generic conventions of a horror/drama is by using a female character as the murderer as we nearly always see a strong male lead as the murderer. During our research task, we watched the opening to the film 'The Devil's Backbone' and realised that the film used some sort of poem being read out during, we then decided to use this in our film opening to add tension.

Our film classification.

We have decided to classify our film as a 15 because it involves some violent images and the opening gives some violent suggestions of what's going to happen in the film.

Still shot picture ideas. (Collaboration with Laura Smith)
We have chosen to edit still images that we took to use in our film opening. We have edited the photos and used a black & white effect and applied colour to the blood in the picture. This highlights the blood on the body and makes it stand out which makes the pictures more interesting and gives a more professional look.

Location.
We chose our location as a horse yard (Woodfield Stables, Bristol) as it is the most suitable for our film opening and the actress we are using keeps her horse there which would make it really easy for us to use and get hold of everything that we needed. It also helps us to create a professional outcome for our completed film opening.

Rough shot list.
- Establishing shot- 30 shots (30 seconds long, 1 shot each second)
- Long shot- 30 shots (15 seconds long, 2 shots each second)
- Close up- 30 shots (15 seconds long, 2 shots each second)
- Extreme long shot- 4 shots (7 seconds long)
- Long shot (3 seconds)
- Mid shot (3 seconds)
- Close up (3 seconds)
This is just a rough idea of what different types of shots we will use in our film opening. It will assist us with the filming process and make it quicker and easier to work out how we're going to film what we need to the best ability. The different types of shots will make our film look more professional and will add lots of effect to the film.
Storyboard. (By Laura Smith)
We have decided on what our film opening is going to look like and we are now ready to start filming. We have decided on the timing of our shots and have also created a separate shot list to assist us with planning and filming.

Costume ideas
Horse riding uniform:
- Helmet
- Whip
- Coat
- Boots
- Jodhpurs
This costume is a good idea as we will not have to purchase anything due to the fact that the our actress is actually a horse-rider, therefore we can use her costume and the horse that she owns to use in our film opening.
Analysis of the first two minutes of 'The Strangers'
The film begins with text appearing on the screen and a male voice reading out the text that appears. He is talking about how the film is inspired by true events and then goes on to mention how many violent crimes are commited in America each year, there is low non-diegetic music accompanying it which makes us focus on what is being said much more. This is a great way to add tension as we are told that what happens in the film has actually happened in real life, meaning that we understand that somehow it could happen to us which makes us more afraid of what we are about to see. It then cuts to a pan of an American street filled with houses, whilst this is happening we hear a 911 call being made and a woman explaining that there's strangers in her house and there's also blood on the wall and various weapons around the house, as this is being said we are shown on screen exactly what the woman is explaining. All of this together creates tension and fear within the audience as it is made to be extremely realistic.
Analysis of the first two minutes of 'Sweeney Todd'
The film starts with non-diegetic organ music and once the credits start rolling the music switches to low, tense non-diegetic music. The camera pans, showing the location which is 19th century London, this helps create tension as the music is tense and the lighting is low. The camera then zooms into one of the houses and we see a chair in the middle of the room by itself and blood drips down from above and also runs through some sort of machine. This again creates the horror/drama theme as it creates tension and gives us the idea that violence is going to be involved. The rest of the film opening involves the camera panning around the inside of the house that we're shown earlier with blood dripping down the walls. All of these generic conventions put together create the genre of horror/drama as the music and hints throughout the opening reveal to us that the film will involve lots of tension and something gory/violent will happen.
Questionnaire results (Collaboration with Laura Smith))
From our results, we can see that out of the ten people asked, horror/drama were the most popular genres. This is helpful to us as this is the genre that we have chosen for our film opening and the results can assist us in knowing what our audience want. Our results show that audience's prefer films that are filled with action/tension. We will attempt to include this in our film opening to make it seem more appealing.

We have decided to choose the genre horror/drama and our target audience will be 20-40 year old males and females. To create a horror film we will need effective make-up such as fake blood, costume and props.
We need to choose our location carefully because it will be important in helping us make our film opening a horror/drama genre. Preferably our location would have to be somewhere quiet/isolated as this will help to create tension during the opening.
