Evaluation.
If my partner and I were to do this again, we would ensure that we created more time for ourselves to film and edit our final piece to make sure that it was to the highest standard possible. Also, we probably would have created a more interesting and different type of story line and create one that was more out of the ordinary, so it is not like the majority of all other horror films and it would be more interesting to create and also watch. We would also include a more wide variety of shot types as our film opening included a small variety and if we would have included more, this could have possibly improved our mark and made our film look much more of a higher standard.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Gender.
Characters:
- Victim - Lucy Welling.
- Killer- Natalie Earle (Me)
My character challenges the traditional representation of the male characters being the antagonist. Females are usually represented in a very negative way in horror films - unintelligent, never survive. We decided to challenge this traditional representation and have a female murderer
Lucy's character portrays young teenage girls as being a victim and helpless in saving themselves and also that they are easy to take advantage of as during the film opening we learn that she is being followed and eventually will get murdered during the film. This goes along with the traditional representation of young girls in horror films being the victim and also one of the first of or the only ones to not survive.

Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract/address your audience?
The most likely audience for our film would be any gender aged 15 and above. This is because of the hints of violence in the opening of our film and the images of the body murdered on the floor.
'At ’15’ there can be strong threat and menace (as long as it is not sadistic or sexualised), although the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.'
I believe that this corresponds to our film as we have included the idea of threat and menace through the shots of the murderer following the victim and planning to kill her. Our images are not too gory at all and only lightly hint at the idea of very strong violence. Also, from our questionnaire results, we found that the majority of people ages 15 and above enjoyed horror/drama/thriller genre of films.
As we are a group of two female over the age of 15 that both enjoy watching horror/drama films, we were able to attract our audience the way that we would be attracted by a film opening, such as putting in ideas that we both find interesting. We also used a questionnaire and took things from our results to use in our film opening ideas.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our chosen genre was a horror/drama, we researched the generic conventions of a horror/drama. Our setting is at a horse stable which is small, isolated, near the countryside and is surrounded by narrow alleyways which is the perfect setting to use a generic convention of a horror setting. For the colours, we used dark backgrounds on our titles and credits and used our shots of the victim dead on the floor to correspond with the use of the red for blood and death. Our narrative structure involves death and a damsel in distress which uses the generic conventions. We chose not to use any weapons in out opening to keep the audience in suspense as to how the killer is murdering their victims. We used a young girl as the victim in our film as this is also the generic convention of a horror/drama as female are usually portrayed as being helpless and an easy target. The way in which we challenged the generic conventions of a horror/drama is by using a female character as the murderer as we nearly always see a strong male lead as the murderer. During our research task, we watched the opening to the film 'The Devil's Backbone' and realised that the film used some sort of poem being read out during, we then decided to use this in our film opening to add tension.
